MUMBAI, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will pursue the creation of an Esports Games, President Thomas Bach said in his opening speech at the IOC Session on Saturday.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is exploring plans for the creation of Olympic Esports Games.
"I have asked our new IOC Esports Commission to study the creation of Olympic Esports Games,” announced IOC President Thomas Bach during the Opening Ceremony of the 141st IOC Session on Saturday (14 October) in Mumbai, India.
The IOC President noted that there are three billion people playing esports and gaming around the world. Estimates suggest that over 500 million of them are interested specifically in esports which includes virtual sports and sport simulations.
"What is even more relevant to us: a majority of them are under the age of 34,” added Bach.
